The City of Hoboken, Hudson County is nearing the end of a period of state monitoring and seeks a dynamic leader for this high visibility opportunity.
Hoboken is a dynamic one-square mile urban community right across the river from New York City, with a population of approximately 50,000, over $90 million budget, 410 municipal employees and 307 public safety employees.
Working in a “strong Mayor” Faulkner Act community with a Council, Directors and community all committed to positive change you will be asked to drive that change across all aspects of city government.
Major challenges/opportunities include need for:
- improved labor productivity in a civil service context;
- negotiation of six long expired union contracts;
- upgrade and increased utilization of IT;
- reexamination of master plan and implementation of zoning ordinances;
- development and acquisition of open space;
- dealing with severe flooding and other issues of failing infrastructure;
- initiating a revaluation;
- creation of green initiatives, and doing it all in the context of reducing the tax burden.
Your detailed cover letter should highlight experience in any/all of these areas.
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of five years senior-level municipal management experience, including responsibility for oversight of departments and functions, preparation of annual budget, human resources, community and public relations, contract negotiations, grant writing and risk management, or equivalent management experience in a comparable organization. A bachelor’s degree in a related field is desired; DCA approved professional certifications are a plus.
Submit required cover letter and resume with salary history and requirements to Daniel Bryan at dbryan@hobokennj.org.
