The Senior Accountant is a senior staff position within the Finance Office responsible for the recording and reconciling financial transactions of the Institute. This position is responsible for processing transactions, adjustments, reconciliations and data analysis. The position will be responsible for the day-to-day, month-end and year-end reporting in a variety of formats as well as ad hoc reporting, account analysis, trend analysis via various software media. The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring that all data and accounts are reconciled, analyzing general ledger accounts, preparation of work-papers, and participating in month-end closings and financial reporting preparation, and participation in the year-end external audit process.

This position operates under significant deadlines, driven by the Institute's monthly close and financial statement reporting process, in addition to the fiscal year which ends June 30th and by the closing process over the succeeding three-month period. Consequently, the Senior Accountant must be well-organized and capable of handling somewhat heavier workloads during each month-end close and in the June through September time frame. Additional related duties are assigned and performed as required.

Education
A Bachelors or Masters degree in accounting, business or related field is required. CPA certification desirable.

Experience
Two to four years progressively responsible related financial experience required, with a significant focus in accounting. Experience in higher education and/or not-for-profit organizations is desirable. Qualitative and quantitative skills normally acquired through a BS degree in accounting or other finance related degree.

Other skills
Familiarity with GAAP and FASB accounting and reporting requirements. In addition to strong research, analytic and creative skills, the successful candidate is required to possess excellent project management, time management, business process analysis and development skills. Must have excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work and adapt easily to changing priorities. Candidate must be a highly energetic self-starter who is capable of planning and completing tasks with a minimum of assistance.
Excellent written, verbal communicative, and presentation skills are required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word; working knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of FRS Plus accounting system or an equivalent accounting system is required. Work with an enterprise financial system is strongly desired. Must have the ability to prepare accurate schedules and interact effectively with the Institute external auditors during the closing process, in the areas assigned to him/her. Ability to mine accounting systems for transactional data is required.

Must be a team player, with the committed to team work and collaborate with staff at all levels, including the most senior. Ability to interact successfully with faculty, staff, external auditors and others in a dynamic environment is required.
