HOMELAND SECURITY SPENDING IN HUDSON

Federal homeland security funding received by Hudson County and some of the purchases it was used for:

2006: $1.9 MILLION
Four Altura machines. These are hand-held devices, to be distributed to the county's four hazardous materials teams, that can read chemicals ($136,000); Other purchasing to be determined.

2005: $1.9 MILLION
Items include: communications vehicle ($750,000); three water tankers ($210,000); 50 anti-theft devices for ambulances and other emergency vehicles; pallet truck ($34,000); self-contained breathing devices ($100,000).

2004: $1.2 MILLION
Items include: AM Radio station ($74,000); water-filled barriers; light towers; cameras and other security equipment for courthouse and administration buildings ($715,000)

2003: $556,000
Items include: Protective hoods of EMS staff; HAZMAT suits.
