New hosp panel to meet

The newly formed Hoboken Hospital Authority plans to hold its first public meeting tomorrow, ushering in a new period of community management at the beleaguered St. Mary Hospital.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the hospital's Assumption Hall.

The board is autonomous from the city and was created by special legislation that saved the hospital from closing. Mayor David Roberts appointed six board members and the hospital's medical staff selected two. The state Department of Community Affairs will fill out the nine-member board when it makes its selection.

The members are:

James F. Caufield. A Hoboken resident with a civil engineering degree from Stevens Institute of Technology. He is the president of Fields Construction Corporation.

Camille Corea. A native of Hoboken, Corea spent five years as the director of volunteers at St. Mary and her family donated the Anthony I. Corea Cardiac Rehab Center in memory of her late husband.

Alfred O. Fayemi. A resident of New York, Fayemi, a physician, has been director of Pathology for the Bon Secours New Jersey Health System and its predecessors for almost two decades.

Kevin M. Kramer. An attorney who lives in Hoboken, Kramer has worked for former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, New Jersey Sen. Bill Bradley, and Nevada Sen. Richard S. Bryan. He works for a Newark firm, where he specializes in health care law.

Eric Lawton Jr. Born in Hoboken, is a funeral director. He served on the St. Mary Hospital Board of Directors in the 1970s and '80s.

Joseph E. Scerbo. A physician specializing in pulmonary medicine, Scerbo is the president of the St. Mary medical staff. He has been on staff since 1968.

Frederick J. Tomkins. A Bayonne resident and graduate of St. Peter's College in Jersey City, Tomkins is a CPA and a partner in the firm of Donohue, Gironda and Doria.

E. Norman Wilson. A lifelong Hoboken resident, Wilson was a member of the City Council from 1979 to 1995. He is a graduate of Fordham University School of Law and for 30 years was the director of HOPES, a local antipoverty organization.
