New Jersey's OPRA "Open Public Records Act" and OPMA "Open Public Meetings Act" are the citizens' window into the inner workings of New Jersey government.

The Open Public Records Act "OPRA" provides guidelines for the dissemination of “public” government records.  Not every government record is “public” and there are restrictions.  But for the most part, OPRA does a good job in providing record access.  Unfortunately, sometimes even the simplest request for a "public" document can be a nightmare for many citizens.  If you know your rights under OPRA and the record is “public”… you should have an easier time getting the requested information.   Learn more about OPRA.

The Open Public Meetings Act “OPMA” sets a standard for government meetings, i.e. City Council meetings, Freeholders meetings, etc.  Learn more about OPMA.

Quotable Quotes - Hoboken's 916 Garden Street Automated Garage

Quotable Quotes - Hoboken's 916 Garden Street Automated Garage

"Naturally, the city [Hoboken] is running for the hills, hiding behind contracts and lawyers. Gerhard [Robotic] is frustrated, of course, because he thinks the owner [Hoboken] should begin to take some responsibility for what it bought. -- John Van Horn, Editor,ParkingToday.com

"The project was way behind completion -- almost two years. When done, everyone was arguing as to whether or not it worked as it was supposed to, and who is to supply personnel to run it." -- John Van Horn, Editor, ParkingToday.com

"What is most sad is that Gerhard Haag [Robotic] was the only manufacturer that put his money where his mouth is. He built a test system in Ohio. He showed people how it would work. And he got the deal. Of course, he didn't know how to work in an environment like Hoboken. Power, influence, politics, money and perhaps a bit of rubbing right up against the law were involved. Not a good place to cut your teeth on a new technology and in a country where the customs are foreign." -- John Van Horn, Editor, ParkingToday.com

"THE CITY WAS IN A BUDGET SHORTFALL. IN ORDER TO GET THE FUNDS NEEDED THY HAD TO ABOLISH THE AUTHORITY TO GET AT THE FOURTEEN MILLION DOLLARS THAT THE AUTHORITY HAD BUILT UP FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF NEW GARAGES AND FOR PAYMENT OF DEBT SERVICE." -- Donald Pellicano, Former Commissioner of the [Hoboken] parking authority

"Gerhard Haag and Robotic, never ever had any signed agreement with Hoboken to build anything." -- Donald Pellicano, Former Commissioner of the [Hoboken] parking authority

"Ahh forgot one point on the Jeep: investigations into the software recordings revealed that the operator on shift overwrote the software, kicked it out of automatic mode into manual and moved the car into the system, than switched the system back into automatic mode again. Just that the car was NOT inside the confines of the pallet. Operator on shift: the one operator of the HPU." --  Gerhard Haag, President of Robotic Parking, Inc.

"WHEN WILL YOu [Haag] STOP TELLING THE INDUSTRY THAT IT WAS MY FAULT THAT THE GARAGE DOES NOT WORK?" -- Donald Pellicano, Former Commissioner of the [Hoboken] parking authority

Hoboken Catholic Academy Principal Fired

Parents and students of Hoboken Catholic Academy were stunned to learn that school principle, Michael Massone, was fired yesterday by the Newark Archdiocese.

According to a published report, the Archdiocese refused to say why Massone was fired but did admit to passing some information about Massone to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.

Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said that his office "got a call from an Archdiocese lawyer about a concern they had, involving the Hoboken Catholic Academy" but would not elaborate further.  "Nobody at this point has been criminally charged," he said. "I don't know where this is going."
