State Police grab documents in Arezzo probe

August 28, 2007, JJ

The Jersey Journal's Jarrett Renshaw is reporting that State Troopers from the Organized Crime Unit went to City Hall yesterday and seized documents from Construction Code Official Al Arezzo's office.

In addition, sources have told Renshaw that a grand jury has been convened in connection with the probe.

No one would confirm any of this on the record, but Renshaw got the scoop from multiple sources. State Police wouldn't confirm or deny the report.

Arezzo didn't return phone calls for comment.

The state Department of Community Affairs had earlier issued subpoenas to Arezzo's office in connection with its investigation, but Renshaw was told this is the first time the city has received subpoenas from the State Police as part of this investigation.

Arezzo made news recently during his battle with Mayor David Roberts over an entrance to the public park at Maxwell Place.
